A majority of U.S. customers are concerned about the environmental impacts of deliveries, and many factor in these concerns when choosing a delivery company, according to a new white paper from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Additionally, the paper identifies opportunities for new and innovative sustainable products. Options such as reusable packaging present exciting opportunities for the Postal Service, as does carbon compensation, which offsets greenhouse gas emissions from deliveries, for example, by planting new trees. By adopting similar products and highlighting the already environmentally-friendly aspects of its operations, the Postal Service could at the same time meet customer demand and create a competitive advantage.
